Sony plans to release new cleint software which will make its LocationFree TV available to Macs and a wider range of mobile devices.
Next week, Sony Corporation plans to unveil new client software for its LocationFree TV which let the platform stream live video and audio to Macintosh computers and a wider range of mobile devices.
Sony’s LocationFree TV currently supports Windows 2000 and XP, Sony’s own PSP portable gaming device, and custom 7-inch or 12.1-inch flat-screen tablets available from Sony. The basic idea is that via a wireless base station (currently available as the LF-PK1), users can watch TV, video, and stream audio from devices in their living room to a remote computer via a home network or broadband connection. The LF-PK1 is currently available in Japan, Europe, and the U.S.; the U.S. price is about $280.
The extensions to LocationFree TV come via licensing agreements with Access Co, Ltd. (covering cell phones and PDAs: these folks recently bought PalmSource in September 2005) and Kaga Electronics, Ltd., covering the Mac client.
