Tao Unveils New Wireless Player

The Tao Wireless Player, which sports a 20 GB hard drive, will automatically locate hotspots so it can login and download new content to its 20 GB hard drive.

Consumer electronics brand Tao, along with technology partners SoniqCast and PassAlong Networks, yesterday unveiled a portable device designed to make use of wireless technologies to pull down content. The Tao Wireless Media Player is expected to be available in the first quarter of next year.

The Tao Wireless Player sports a 20 GB hard drive and automatically locates and accesses wireless hotspots to allow users to download content such as music, audio books, talk programs and newspapers. The player will also allow users to share content between two devices, creating what Tao calls a legitimate solution for sharing songs and playlists without being tied to a computer.

Other features of the Tao Wireless Player include dual headphone jacks, a rechargeable battery, FM receiver and built-in FM transmitter.

“Today we are presenting the first truly wireless, portable consumer lifestyle device,” explained Frank Myers, President of Tao. “The customer is now free from hardware and accessory dependence, protocol dependence and dependence on anything but access to a wireless hotspot. The Tao Wireless Media Player lets you schedule your downloads so you no longer have to search for your content. Schedule what you want, when you want it and go about your day.”
