Volvo Drivers, Get iPod Happy

Car maker partners with PhatNoise to bring dealer installed MP3 listening solutions to Volvo drivers.

Volvo drivers, rejoice! Your car manufacturer has seen the light of the digital music revolution, announcing a partnership today with PhatNoise to offer two dealer-installed solutions to enjoy MP3s. One involves your iPod, with the other being a customized version of PhatNoise’s PhatBox player.

The iPod solution, known as the Volvo iPod Adapter ($150) will be available for the S60, S80 and V70/XC70 models. It allows connection by plugging the iPod into a cable located in the car’s armrest compartment. Control of the player is accomplished through the Volvo’s sound system and steering wheel controls, while at the same time charging the iPod.

The on-board Digital Jukebox ($898), meanwhile, is much the same as PhatNoise’s PhatBox Digital Media Player. It integrates with the Volvo’s existing stereo and steering wheel controls and features a removable 20GB hard drive which can be used to store up to 500 CDs of music. The hard drive is attached to a computer via a USB port and music management is handled through special software.
