Return to Rapture with ‘Bioshock Infinite: Burial at Sea,’ out today

As previously confirmed by Irrational Games, the first of two downloadable content episodes for the Bioshock Infinite hit virtual shelves today. Dubbed Burial at Sea, the first of the two-part noir story is centered on an alternate version of the Infinite protagonists Booker DeWitt and Elizabeth. The duo are now residents of Rapture, Andrew Ryan’s would-be utopia and the setting of the first two BioShock games, shortly before its fall form grace. Developer 2K Games has released a launch trailer to herald the DLC, one fraught with the same mysterious darkness and deep-seeded nostalgia series creator Ken Levine recently outlined with DT’s own Adam Rosenberg.

As shown in the trailer’s opening moment, Elizabeth recruits DeWitt in her search for a lost girl named Sally. Genetic-modifiying plasmids are back in place of vigors, hulking Big Daddies in place of Handymen, and though the underlying aesthetics aren’t quite as creepy as those found in the original BioShock, there’s an eerie foreshadowing that will likely be further explored in the second DLC episode, which features Elizabeth as the playable character.

Burial at Sea is now available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC for $15, with the second episode slated for release sometime in 2014. Both episodes, along with the previously-released Clash in the Clouds DLC, are available to those who purchased the $2o Bioshock Infinite Season Pass.
