For those looking to take a break from shooting human avatars in Call of Duty, Ghosts has you covered. The upcoming Onslaught DLC for Call of Duty: Ghosts DLC, offers includes four new multiplayer maps — Fog, Bayview, Containment, and Ignition — two new weapons, and the first add-on “episode” for the title’s alien-infested Extinction mode. The latter of which has players tramping through a snow-drizzled, Alaskan base while combating hordes of fluid-spewing extraterrestrials. The new narrative-centered offering, dubbed “Episode One: Nightfall,” also incorporates alien-derived weaponry and several new breeds of enemy (aptly-named “phantoms” and the “Breeder”).
The latest trailer doesn’t so much shed light on the alien origins as hint at what’s likely to unfold throughout the course of Extinction’s four planned installments. There’s plenty of, err, oozeshed, along with enemies and a few in-game cinematics that come off as more hokey than dramatic. Still, it’s a shame Infinity Ward couldn’t slip Stephen Graham into the mix again, but perhaps CODnapping vidoes only get you so far.
Onslaught is slated for release on Jan. 28 for Xbox 360 and Xbox One, with PC and PlayStation systems coming after. If you haven’t already, check out our in-depth review of Call of Duty: Ghosts and the broadcast schedule for the ongoing the Call of Duty: Ghosts MLG Winter Invitational.
