Doom 3 is getting a re-release later this year, a mere eight years after it was originally released for PC in 2004 (Xbox and Mac versions came in 2005). It’s being brought back by Bethesda and id Software, and the he remastered edition is being updated with 3D support, new visuals and skins, and some bonus mission content.
Doom 3: BFG Edition comes with the original game, the “Resurrection of Evil” expansion, a new seven-level mission titled “The Lost Mission,” as well as Doom 1 and Doom 2. On top of that, a couple of other additions including a new flashlight that will be shoulder mounted, which will do away with the gun mounted version in the original. That could actually give the game a whole new feel, as the choice between having light or a weapon was a huge part of the fear factor in the original game. Doom 3: BFG Edition will also feature a refined save/checkpoint system, and 5.1 surround sound.
The remastered edition will be out this fall for PC, Playstation 3, and Xbox 360 but there’s no information on what the price will be.
