We already new Capcom’s Dragon’s Dogma was getting the full retail treatment less than a year after its initial release, albeit bundled with the hefty Dark Arisen expansion, but it’s nice to see another peek at the variable onslaught of freaks and foe’s you’ll encounter as you plunge further into the dungeon-esque depths and ruins of the expansive Gransys. The expansion will flesh out the finer aspects of Dragon’s Dogma, adding a wealth of new environments, skills, equipment and personal customization options for what ought to be a more impressive and immersive experience than the initial release.
“Evil approaches like a fast tide,” spouts the Arisen in the trailer’s opening dialogue. “I sense the will of darkness rising. Humanity’s last hope — that is my curse.”
The launch trailer features everything you come to expect from the epic role-playing franchise from the team behind Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. It’s dark, action-packed and full of rich environments laden with fire-breathing dragons, thundering cyclops, undead knights and a hell-raising demon who gives a whole new meaning to Sheb Wooley’s “Purple People Eater.”
Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is available now for the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 for a mere $40. The European launch is slated for April 26. Check back with us later this week for a full review.
