‘Drakengard 3’ finally releases an announcement trailer

Things have been rather hush hush regarding the next installment in the Drakengard franchise since Japan’s Famitsu magazine initially announced Drakengard 3 in March. As a prequel to the original Drakengard, the action role-playing game is set in a medieval realm where six goddess-like sisters known as “Intoners” bring peace through the power magical song. Things seemingly go to hell when the eldest sister attempts to murder her younger sibling with the help of her dragon, leaving the player on a journey to unravel the rest.

Like most Square Enix titles, it sounds a bit loony on paper — especially considering the main protagonist sports a flower growing out her eyeball — but the latest cinematic trailer for the title features gorgeously-animated visuals, subtitles, and ample emotion. It’s a little tough to figure out exactly what’s going on amid the muted dialogue and slow motion sequences, but don’t worry, Square Enix guarantees you’ll still be able to hack your way through hordes of enemies on the ground and take to the skies for pitched aerial combat atop your trusty dragon, Mikhail.

Drakengard 3 is due to hit shelves and the Playstation Network in 2014.
