The makers of Mortal Kombat are poised to try their hand once again at a fighting game based on the DC Universe, when Injustice: Gods Among Us debuts sometime next year. The first attempt, Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, was back when NetherRealm was still operating under the Midway Amusement name. It was a decent offering, but the mash-up of the two universes just didn’t work as well as it might have. The less bloody game put off many Mortal Kombat fans, while the DC supporters weren’t sure why their favorite characters were fighting enemies like Jax and Liu Kang. The mechanics were sound though.
The second attempt came under the NetherRealm banner when it released Batman: Arkham City Lockdown as an iOS game. It worked for the platform, but didn’t reach a huge audience.
NeatherRealm and WBIE are hoping that the third time is a charm with Injustice: Gods Among Us. The new fighter due out next year features several DC favorites including: Batman, Flash, Cyborg, Superman, Nightwing, Wonder Woman, Solomon Grundy, Harley Quinn, and many others that have yet to be announced.
Check out the trailer, and look for it on PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii U in 2013.
