Everyone loves a quality guided tour, and thanks to the good folks at Square Enix, viewers can take an in-depth look at the upcoming, final installment (we assume) in the saga that is Final Fantasy XIII. The lengthy video showcases both cinematic sequences and gameplay footage, quickly detailing the movement-centric battle system, online and in-game item sharing, and the title’s acute emphasis on time.
Additional elements such as the 80 customizable outfits and the game’s four open-world regions are also touched upon, as is returning protagonist Lightning, her quest to liberate souls, and a crumbling world on the brink of destruction. It looks good — and judging by our Lightning Returns: Final Fanrast XIII hands-on impressions — it offers a slew of welcome innovations and a refreshing spin on a classic series that’s becoming more tiresome by the title.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII is slated for release on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in Feb. 2014. In the meantime, check out a cutscene-laden trailer for the title and our review of its predecessor, Final Fantasy XIII-2.
