Mass Effect 3 – Faction strategies and the N7 Challenge Weekend

If you haven’t jumped into the multiplayer portion of Bioware’s Mass Effect 3 then you might not know that there are three different enemy factions that players battle against in squad-based missions and horde-mode-esque matches. The factions include the Geth, Cerberus, and the Reapers.

Designers Eric Fagnan and Corey Gaspur break down the various factions in the above videos. They talk about some of the more dangerous enemies like the Cerberus Atlus or the Reaper Banshee and tactics that players can use to bring them down.

These tips and tricks that might come in handy this weekend during Bioware’s Mass Effect 3 “N7 Challenge Weekend”. The “N7 Challenge Weekend” will be the first big multiplayer event that Bioware is putting on for Mass Effect 3 owners. We’re sorry PS3 users, but the event is only for those who have the Xbox 360 and PC versions. The challenge weekend starts today (March 16) at 5 PM Pacific time and goes through Monday, March 19 at 5 in the morning Pacific time.

Players will have a chance to earn some pretty good rewards that will be usable in the single player portion of the game.

Through “Operation Goliath” players can earn the rewards through two different options:

1) Players have to be part of a squad that beats the Reaper faction on Silver – or better – difficulty. At least one member of the squad has to be extracted at the end of the mission. If this happens everyone on the squad earns the reward. For this one, each player can earn a maximum of one Commendation Pack that will contain a random N7 Arsenal Weapon. The Commendation Pack will have one of the following guns at random: N7 Crusader Shotgun, N7 Eagle Pistol, N7 Hurricane SMG, N7 Valiant Sniper Rifle.

2) In the second option, the multiplayer community has to kill a combined one million brutes during the hours of the challenge. If this happens all players will receive a Victory Pack as a reward.

We do want you to  note that the rewards won’t be available for use until Tuesday, March 20 starting at 5 PM Pacific time. Bioware says that you’ll have to redeem your packs in the multiplayer store menu within  seven days of receiving them. If you don’t do redeem the packs they will expire and they won’t be restored. Also, to participate players have to enable the data tracking option in the game. If it is set to off your completion and contributions to the challenges won’t be tracked so you won’t get any of the rewards.
