Read our full Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor review.
The latest feature trailer for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor shows off the Wraith, a ghostly entity that share’s the protagonist Talion’s body in a mutual quest for vengeance. At the beginning of the game Talion will merge with the Wraith, supplementing his hardened Ranger training with ghostly powers. These include the ability to dominate enemies, piercing their minds and learning their strengths and weaknesses. This information can be leveraged to terrorize and sow chaos within Sauron’s ranks. For instance, if you find out that war chief Gorbag is deathly afraid of fire, then you know that a well-placed flame spell will send his troop into disarray.
Other Wraith powers shown, but not explained, seem to include revealing the locations of nearby enemies, splitting into two bodies when facing multiple enemies, and controlling enemies to fight one another for you. Strategically utilizing your Wraith powers to manipulate the living world generated by the Nemesis system is a large part of what will make each playthrough unique.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor comes out on PlayStation and Xbox Consoles on September 30, and PC on October 2.
