Modern Warfare 3 Spec Ops Survival Trailer

Back at E3, Modern Warfare 3 was everywhere. It opened the Microsoft press event, posters were everywhere and it was hard to ignore on the giant screen that dominated the back of the convention hall. But the focus was on the campaign, and the look at the world as it might be when war has been declared. It was big, wild and loud. But behind closed doors, Activision was showing off something different—the new Spec Ops modes. Those that played Modern Warfare 2—and there are a lot of you—are probably familiar with the two-player co-op Spec Ops missions. Those game modes return in the new Call of Duty, and they bring with it the Survival mode, a two-player co-op that puts you up against waves of increasingly difficult enemies. If you have played Horde mode, you will be familiar with the idea.

We played the Spec Ops mode at E3, and as the video below shows, you will begin with just a handgun. As with the Zombie modes in Treyarch’s Call of Duty games, you earn points for defeating enemies, but unlike Zombies you can collect weapons off of foes. You can still buy weapons, as well as weapon enhancements like red dot scopes or dual mags, but you can also save up the points to purchase perks, like automatic turrets. You can also call in a Delta Force team to help you out, and you will need it. The difficult of each wave significantly increases. You will face more enemies with better weapons, better armor, and eventually even dogs strapped with explosives. But nothing will have you cursing quite as loudly as the juggernauts—enemies decked out head to toe in body armor. They will make you angry. Very, very angry.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will empty your wallets when it is released for PC, PS3, Xbox 360 and a modified Wii version on November 8.
