Open-world my dear Watson, that’s the key to a Sherlock Holmes game

It’s been a while since we’ve seen or heard anything about the upcoming open-world Sherlock Holmes game, The Testament of Sherlock Holmes, from Atlus and Frogwares. We first caught a glimpse of it at this year’s E3, but haven’t heard much since then. One thing is for sure though — this isn’t a half-assed video game spinoff of the newest Sherlock Holmes movies with voices by Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr., nor is it a BBC tie-in to the successful modern day adaptation Sherlock, starring the unreasonably well named Benedict Cumberbatch.  It’s an entirely original take on the plight of the famous detective.

There have been loads of Holmes-based video games released over the years, but the game’s developers are calling this one the “most intricately detailed and interactive Sherlock Holmes adventure ever.” As you can gather from this new trailer, Holmes finds himself in quite a predicament after returning a fake necklace after a case, and must clear his name before Scotland Yard comes down on him.

Atlus has The Testament of Sherlock Holmes slated for release on September 25th, with the game available on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
