Ubisoft Montreal has released a new trailer for its upcoming download-only game, Child of Light. The platforming-focused RPG features co-op play, and is set in a world steeped in Japanese art influences. Think Studio Ghibli, the animation team behind films like Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.
Child of Light takes place in a fairy tale-like world called Lemuria, where the sun, moon, and stars have been stolen by the Black Queen. The game casts you in the role of the kidnapped child Aurora, who is accompanied by Igniculus the firefly. Igniculus helps Aurora navigate the world, as well as help out in the turn-based combat, but he lacks a strong physical presence.
The primary character is Aurora, and that’s who solo players will take control of throughout the game. A second player can jump in as Igniculus, creating a co-op style of game similar to Rayman Legends, which allows a co-op player to take control of the character Murfy the Greenbottle. Like Murfy, Igniculus can help to solve puzzles, but won’t be able to attack enemies on his own. That similarity in style shouldn’t come as a big surprise though, given that Child of Light uses the same in-house UbiArt engine designed for Rayman.
Child of Light will be available on April 30 for the PS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Wii U, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
