Fans of Telltale Games’ episodic The Walking Dead series that are looking for new ways to experience those tough choices have an interesting twist coming their way: a Zen Studios’ pinball adaptation of the first season. The team behind Zen Pinball is mainly known for its branded pinball adaptations in which the tables are populated by characters from geek-friendly universes like Marvel and Star Wars.
For The Walking Dead Pinball, Zen is working closely with Telltale Games and the comics’ Eisner Award-winning creator, Robert Kirkman, to translate The Walking Dead: Season One‘s choice-driven gameplay to the pinball field. Drawing from events of the first season’s five episodes, scenarios will include choosing who to save and who to leave behind, keeping up group morale, scavenging for tools and supplies, and navigating a walker attack, all translated into pinball mechanics. It’s a bizarre notion to the uninitiated, but Zen has been working for years to elevate the classic pinball game into a dynamic, narrative experience, and for The Walking Dead the studio aims to take this to a whole new level.
“Zen knocked it out of the park with their interpretation Telltale’s first season of The Walking Dead as a pinball table,” said Telltale’s SVP of publishing, Steve Allison. “Players once again get to step into the shoes of Lee Everett and protect Clementine as all the major events of season one play a role in the first ever pinball game that features choice and consequence gameplay.”
The game will be demonstrated at E3 next week, and attendees will have a chance for hands-on time at Telltale’s booth in Concourse Hall.
