Whether you’re giddy with childlike excitement or filled with skepticism regarding Square Enix and Eidos Montreal’s retooling of Thief, there’s no doubting it will be one of the most talked about titles in the months to come. The latest trailer for the upcoming game, revealed during Spike’s VGX award show, reveals bits and pieces of the plot that takes the player through the steampunked streets of the City, as well as master thief Garrett’s quest for to rid the tyrannical powers that be of their riches.
Not only does the new trailer expose a bit more regarding the characters’ motives and supernatural elements driving Garrett’s actions, but it also teases additional in-game, stealth footage and combat rooted in the the series’ trademark maneuvers and gadgets. Needless to say, Garrett snaps one or two necks in the process.
Thief is slated for release on current and next-gen consoles on Feb. 25, 2014, alongside a companion app offering in-game stat tracking, interactive maps, and two digital issues of Dark Horse Comics Thief series, among other built-in functionality. Art technical director Jean-Normand Bucci recently stated the gameplay will remain the same across platforms, with the PC version and next-gen console editions offering higher resolution in addition to other enhanced visual facets.
