It’s been a couple of months since we’ve heard anything from Firaxis, the team behind the XCOM: Enemy Unknown reboot, so as a quick reminder Firaxis Games and 2K Games are rebooting the popular 1990s tactical PC game, XCOM, which came out in 1994 for PC, and eventually saw a PS1 port. Like many popular mid-90s PC games, XCOM was a tactical game with turn-based gameplay pitting human units against alien invaders.
Back in March, Firaxis released a developer’s diary that discussed their inspiration for the game and showed off how the tactical, turn-based play would work.
This time around they’re exploring the base that players will use in between missions. There’s a lot going at HQ with players allowed to expand the base underground to create different rooms from laboratories to weapons lockers and containment cells. It also has an interesting sideview that’s somewhat reminiscent of a 2D side scroller.
Up to now we haven’t had a release date for XCOM: Enemy Unknown, but we finally know that it will come out on October 9 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
