The latest developer video for Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare features Audio Director Don Vega discussing the process behind the upcoming game’s booming gunfire and manly grunts.
Rather than simply cuing up canned sounds for explosions and whatnot, the game has been built to intelligently take into account the surrounding environment and filter the sound effect accordingly. Vega is particularly pleased with improvements to the sounds of weapons.
Although the game is set in the future, the developers still want it to feel grounded and realistic. This is reflected in the sound design by building the sounds of future tech off of base sounds from the present real world.
