‘Assassin’s Creed IV’ scriptwriter reveals new story and world details

AC4Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag lead scriptwriter Darby McDevitt has revealed in an interview with Polygon that sexual immorality and repentance will be two of the main thematic motifs in the upcoming pirate-themed sequel.

The first Assassin’s Creed IV trailer depicted protagonist and super cool pirate Edward Kenway committing various acts of depravity, including plenty of murder, scuba diving without a tank, and what appears to have been a sexual encounter with two bedridden and scantily clad ladies. But McDevitt revealed that Kenway is actually a married man, and his various illicit trysts will factor heavily into the plot.

One of the woman in the threesome scene later pops up at the end of the trailer when Edward assassinates a target he had apparently directed her to distract for him. McDevitt said that’s an important detail, and that “you can use certain NPC characters to more effectively achieve your goals” in the game. Similar skills have been present in past Assassin’s Creed games.

The scriptwriter also provided some hints about other characters, including the role of the Templars in Assassin’s Creed IV, and said that the gameplay will be “more open and free than ever before.”
