Atari's realistic military combat simulation game for Windows, ArmA: Combat Operations, has gone gold and will ship to North American retailers May 1.

Atari has announced that it’s realistic military combat simulation game for Windows, ArmA: Combat Operations, has gone gold and will ship to North American retailers May 1, 2007. The title is developed by Bohemia Interactive, and is currently shipping in Europe under the name ArmA: Armed Assault.

The game offers both story-driven single player and massive multiplayer battles (which support as many as 50 players on a single battlefield) in a realistic, modern-day setting. The game features an enormous environment of more than 250 square miles, over 30 weapons, and more than 30 vehicles, including tanks, APCS, self-propelled guns, helicopters, and even fighter planes. The game encourages freedom of movement, unusual actions and tactics, and allows players to immerse themselves in realistic battles. The game also features a built-in editor which enables players to create their own missions, units, and maps. The simulator rolls in elements like wind, real-world constellations, tides, lighting effects (the sun can get in your eyes!) and lunar cycles…so sneaking up on something might just mean waiting for a new moon. The world even features bugs.

"Fans of Operation Flashpoint have been eagerly awaiting the next game from the talented team at Bohemia Interactive," said Jeremiah Cohn, Product Manager, Atari, Inc. "We are thrilled to deliver an incredibly realistic military combat title for the PC."

ArmA: Combat Operations s priced at $39.95 and is rated M for "Mature" by the ESRB. The game requires Windows 2000 or later (Windows XP recommended), at least 512 MB of RAM, a video card with at least 128 MB of RAM and DirectX 9 support, and a 2 GHz processor.
