The Call of Duty machine rolls on. Even as players settle into the world of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, released just weeks ago, details about the next entry in Activision’s shooter series are starting to sneak out. Lines from one of the game’s main characters were leaked onto the web in November, providing some insight into where the story of the series is going.
The untitled, codenamed Call of Duty 2013 is said takes place in the continuity of Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare games. Siliconera reprinted the scripted lines of a character referred to as “Ben Burke,” which might be a codename rather than a proper name. Lines from the script include:
“This is Sentinel Zero One, successful crypto change on C2 net break, requesting immediate update of blue force picture and status of artillery, over. I have you broken and unreadable, I say again, requesting updates to friendly positons and status of arty support. Do you read, over?”
“Reminds you of Phuket, doesn’t it? Only this time the dust gives you cancer… OK, park yourself and get ready. When this thing kicks off, put a hole in anything that moves.”
Phuket, Thailand was a setting in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, lending further credence to the expectation that Call of Duty 2013 will in fact turn out to be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
This is the second time in as many months that voice recording plans for the next game in the series have suggested Activision is making Modern Warfare 4. Captain Price voice action Bill Murray said on October 30 that he was meeting with Infinity Ward in early November to discuss the role he’d play in the upcoming sequel. Infinity Ward responded saying that the news wasn’t true and that it hadn’t talking with any voice actors yet.
Activision may be damaging its lucrative Call of Duty brand by producing yet another annual sequel, though. Stern Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia said that Black Ops 2 sales suggest that series sales may finally be slowing. “Our checks show initial sales of CoD: Black Ops 2 at some retailers were down as much as 20 percent,” said Bhatia on Thursday, “Subsequently, it appears sales of CoD did pick up a bit over the Thanksgiving holiday. We think the current sales curve suggests CoD: Black Ops 2 sales in its first year could ultimately be down 10 percent to 15 percent year-over-year.”
Yes! Bring on more Call of Duty Activision; shovel it out and cram it down the industry’s throat. The sooner this happens, the sooner COD goes the way of the Tony Hawk franchise, although I’m sure the series will “innovate” by going back to WWII and people will eat it up, sigh….
Really? Go back to what they just came from?
COD, COD2, COD3, COD5…
No.. No….. They should go even further into the future Pre-Halo-MassEffect.
I think that would be cool.
They need to focus more on the Single player, And add co-op, And less on the Multiplayer, Although the Multiplayer could use some innovation, Bigger maps, Vehicles, More Forge like custom games.
Multiplayer sounds like BF3. I like how modern warfare is “modern”. I don’t think we need another halo/masseffect/starhawk/cod2.
Aww, Mr Hipster made a doodie in his undies? Go find mommy and Im sure shell be glad to lick it up. If you dont like something, GTFO. Your singular opinion means nothing. They made half a BILLION dollars in like what, a week? Clearly theyre doing something right. Also…the only way you could have such an opinion on COD is if youve played ALL of them to 100% completion, single and multiplayer. Which you havent. In fact your hatred would point to the idea that you dont play any of them at all…and that just goes to show you have no right in expressing your opinion as it has no grounding to it.
They didn’t make close to half a billion dollars. Maybe 50 million. That isn’t bad scratch but Minecraft probably made as much profit as Blops 2. You’ve got distribution, cost of goods sold, marketing, development cost, charges against future liabilities ie they sold DLC they haven’t produced yet, all kinds of expenses. 500 million is a gross retail sales figure.
Your reaction seems pretty typical from a CoD player. Insult your opponent with immature comments, usually containing the mother of your target, then continue to say how they have zero right to judge CoD because they haven’t “100%” everything they have ever produced. Seriously? I’ve watched CoD grow since the beginning, I’ve played CoD1 (that’s right, the original) through MW3 singleplayer because of people like you that make playing online in CoD one of the worst things I could ever do. The immaturity and stupidity of the majority of CoD’s players is what turned me off the most, not to mention the fact that CoD does nothing but re-skin whatever game they produced two years ago and give it a new singleplayer and different guns. There is NO innovation, NO heart, in what Activision and Infinity Ward are doing nowadays because they know that no matter what they put out, as long as it has the words Call of Duty on the cover, 12 year olds and immature assholes like you will buy it.
Call of Duty Logic:
Create a wonderful game,
Make the same game over the years,
Copy and Paste all of the game files,
Create a new game EVERY. SINGLE. MONTH.
Then, Plummet your sales and lose all of your money and go bankrupt!
This has been Call of Duty Logic with Billy, Your neighborhood Battlefield 3 player.
I think if Activision were to create another COD game they should definitely consider making an online free roam, instead of the usual set maps and set game modes. This would bring something new into the COD world and for the fans around the world. We wouldn’t be limited to anything, and on top of all that it would be awesome to be able to pick what side your fighting for and create your own character’s. I know it’s a bit far off from the originals, but I have to admit they are on a down slope. I love Black ops and MW4 but I have to say I was not a fan of Black Ops 2. I was really excited when it came out, but it didn’t live up to my expectations as a COD lover. I know there are some die hard fans out there that are loyal to the extreme and i apologize if my opinion offends you.
Yes they did make a billion dollars in 15 days if you don’t believe it just google and if you don’t like the game don’t hate on it just to start a fight and piss people off grow up damn
We have the right to complain. It’s made for people to play, and WE have to pay for it. We have every right to say what we want.
I really hope that there will be a next COD. On W@W I was #25 in kills MW2 #2 in wins #14 in kills and # 4 in wins and on B.O 1 I was #1 in S&D I was #1… I gotta see the next cod.. love call of duty..
