During a recent question-and-answer session, Capcom representatives cited the game’s record-breaking initial sales — over 4.5 million units shipped to retailers around the world — but added that it’s still too early for any judgements regarding the game’s overall success or where it falls in the greater franchise.
“Resident Evil 6 continues to generate repeat sales in Japan and overseas,” stated Capcom when asked about the flood of negative reviews the game has received since its release. (You can read our review of the game here on Digital Trends.) “Furthermore, initial shipments set a new record for a Capcom title. So this game has been successful to some degree.”
The publisher added that it’s “too early to reach a conclusion about how users view this game. We always listen carefully to the feedback from users and use this information when developing game.”
Capcom also addressed a question about projections for future Resident Evil 6 sales, saying that the “prospects are good” for the game selling 6 million units due to the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays. Overall, the franchise has sold more than 50 million units worldwide since the initial release of Resident Evil way back in 1996.
