Digital Trends Unveils Game Industry Series

"Players Only with Scott Steinberg" lifts the lid on the $18.8-billion-dollar gaming industry, giving viewers a peek at the gears grinding away below.

Gamers looking to dive beneath the latest cheat codes and game reviews to find more in-depth reporting on their hobby have a new place to turn with the recent launch of Players Only with Scott Steinberg, a weekly video program hosted by Digital Trends. The very first episode of the series, available for free online, went live on Thursday.

The show is hosted by Digital Trends’ own Scott Steinberg, author of Get Rich Playing Games and industry expert. Steinberg steps behind the scenes to discuss trends in gaming with notable industry names, including heavyweights such as Sid Meier (Civilization), Warren Spector (Deus Ex), and Peter Molyneux (Dungeon Keeper, Black & White).

“These days, millions of players across the world of all ages, interests and genders are getting in the game,” said Ian Bell, Digital Trends CEO, in a statement. “With the business fast outstripping movies and television as audiences’ preferred choice of leisure activity, we’re excited to debut a program that everyone can enjoy celebrating the industry’s biggest titles and most outspoken personalities.”

New episodes will premier every Friday from April 4 to June 6, for a total run of 10 programs.  The first episode, available immediately, tackles whether or not video games should be considered art, along with the current state of the industry and trends for 2008.

  3. Stan at 5:40pm 3rd April 2008 Great video. Nolan Bushnell after all of these years, still seems to know his stuff.

I find it interesting how Casual Games has taken off. I think it goes to show that graphics do not always win, and you do not need a $50mm budget to make a game. If its fun and appealling thats all that matters.
