‘Dishonored 2’ launch trailer sets the stage for Emily’s revenge

Dishonored 2 - Official Launch Trailer
Corvo Attano exacted his revenge in the original Dishonored, and it will soon be Emily Kaldwin’s turn to do the same, complete with new supernatural abilities and a new land to explore. In the game’s launch trailer, the mysterious Outsider — who provided Corvo with his powers — sets the stage for Emily’s tale.

“Look around you. You haven’t been watching the dark corners of the world,” the Outsider says to Emily. “Maybe living in a palace has made you soft.”

No sooner do the words leave her mouth does Delilah Kaldwin, the “lost sister” of diseased empress Jessamine Kaldwin, approach the throne and confront Emily as she’s flanked by several robotic guards.

Delilah was originally featured in the original Dishonored‘s DLC, particularly The Brigmore Witches. During this time, however, she went by the name “Delilah Copperspoon.”

“I’m here to relieve you of your crown,” Delilah says. We then see Corvo turn to stone as a spell bursts from the floor — it appears that this will be the narrative conceit that stops both Corvo and Emily from going on missions together.

Of course, Emily isn’t about to take this coup lying down. We see her burst through the ceiling of a seaside building and begin a merciless slaughter, killing her enemies with her blade, gun, “bloodflies,” and other supernatural abilities. We also see her use an object to switch between two separate timelines, each populated by different characters.

“How many of your own subjects are you ready to slaughter?” the Outsider asks.

This question was one of the fundamental themes of the original game, where killing would have a significant impact on events that occurred in missions, as well as the narrative’s conclusion. Perhaps we’ll receive our answer soon.

“We’ll be face to face soon … Delilah,” mutters Emily.

Dishonored 2 is out this Friday, November 11, on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. Pre-ordering the game gets you access a day early.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2: release date, trailers, gameplay, and more
Senua stares at a burning tree in Hellblade 2.

Given how impressive Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was, it seemed inevitable that there would be a sequel. The game, despite being made independently by Ninja Theory, blew even the highest-budget games on the market out of the water in terms of graphical fidelity and storytelling. Microsoft realized this potential as well and purchased the studio to provide a bigger budget to the team for the eventual sequel and to secure it as a console exclusive for its then-unreleased Xbox Series X and S systems.

Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 was one of the earliest games shown off for the Xbox Series X and S, and was even initially thought to be one of the system's launch titles. That didn't come to pass, but the team has taken that extra time to craft this sequel into something that looks to be even more impressive than the original. Between the first Game Awards event where the game was announced and the latest footage we've seen, we have a very solid understanding of the important details surrounding this sequel. We have all the information you need to know about Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2.

Frostpunk 2 will come to PC Game Pass when it launches this year
A city in Frostpunk 2.

11bit Studios confirmed that Frostpunk 2 will be released on PC sometime during the first half of 2024 and will be on Game Pass from day one alongside the first full gameplay reveal for the highly anticipated survival city-builder.

The new gameplay trailer for Frostpunk 2 is just over two minutes long and gives the public a first look at the game's city-managing mechanics. Frostpunk 2's gameplay significantly departs from its predecessor in some ways, as it's more focused on the macro management of a city that's survived an apocalypse rather than the micromanaging of resources for basic survival. After getting an extended hands-off look at Frostpunk 2 in action last year, I said it "scales its challenges and gameplay systems up while also holding on to the ethical dilemmas and emphasis on consequences that made the original so great (and depressing.)."
