EA Delays The Godfather Until 2006

Game developer to miss holiday shopping season as highly anticipated video game is delayed to allow more time for development.

Looks like we won’t have any virtual dead horse heads in our virtual beds until at least next year. The highly anticipated The Godfather video game, currently being developed by Electronics Arts and based upon the book and film of the same name, has been delayed until the company’s fourth fiscal quarter, which ends March 31, 2006.

The Godfather, according to an EA press release from yesterday, is being delayed so the company can spend more time trying to develop the non-linear storyline into something which will pay the world of the Corleones greater respect. The 2006 fourth fiscal quarter release will impact the planned Playstation 2, Xbox and PC versions. A version for next generation consoles will appear later.

“The Godfather is one of the most cherished franchises in entertainment,” said Executive Producer David DeMartini.  “Releasing the game in early 2006 allows us more time to perfect the open-world experience of being a member of the Corleone family.”
