Electronic Arts has shipped its anticipated Skate video game, letting PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners experience the thrills of boarding without the street rash.

Electronic Arts has announced that its anticipated street boarding title Skate for the Xbox 360 has shipped to North American retailers, with the PlayStation 3 version of the game due to do out the door September 24. The European market won’t be left out: Xbox 360 owners can expect to see Skate on September 21, with the PS3 edition due to land across the pond on October 5.

Skate takes place in the fictional city of San Vaneloma, and invites players to skate the entire city, define their own turf, take on challenges, and grab boarding footage of themselves with a skate.reel feature to showoff to friends, earn spots on magazine covers, and land sponsorships from real-world companies. Players can modify almost their complete look, opting for clothes, hair, facial features, and (of course) body art and mods. The game also features “flickit” controller action which uses dual analog controls to let players intuitively perform skill-based tricks that capture the attitude of real-world skating.

“EA brought me in early in the development of the game to make sure they were authentically representing the skate culture and the actual feeling of skating,” said skate legend Danny Way. “The team has done a tremendous job in capturing a realistic skate feel and the reward of landing tricks. It’s a celebration of skating and not just focused on one man but everyone and everything that makes skating fun.”

Skate is rated T for “Teen” by the ESRB, and carries a suggested retail price of $59.95.
