Eidos Announces Conflict: Denied Ops

The fifth game in the Conflict series will place players in control of an elite paramilitary team with access to specialized weapons and tactics, plus fully destructable terrain.

Paramilitary wannabes will soon get their chance to tromp through South America with guns blazing in the latest installment in the Conflict series. Eidos Interactive announced Conflict: Denied Ops, the fifth game in the series, on Monday.

Denied Ops will be a cooperative first person shooter, meaning players control a two-man team instead of a lone soldier. Each has specialized weapons and tactics, and players will be able to quickly switch between them to execute team tactics like laying down covering fire, exploring diverging paths, and creating distractions.

Pivotal Games, which has developed all four previous titles in the Conflict series, will also handle Denied Ops. This time around, their proprietary Puncture Technology will give the game a highly destructible environment, allowing players to blaze their own paths or create the perfect sniping spot with a little explosive handiwork.

“We are taking the Conflict series in a new direction, making it more explosive and mature,” said Robert Lindsey, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Eidos, in a statement. “Conflict: Denied Ops delivers large-scale Hollywood style action sequences in real-world political hot spots, sure to appease fans of the FPS genre.”

Conflict: Denied Ops is slated for a spring 2008 release on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Windows PC.
