Electronic Arts announced Monday that the latest iteration of its Burnout series will be coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 systems this coming winter (for those of us in the northern hemisphere). “Burnout Paradise” will stick with the traditional Burnout formula of crashes and mayhem, but add open-ended environments instead of traditional tracks.
Players will find themselves in Paradise City, where they can explore, look for events, find opportunities to crash, jump, and perform “signature takedowns.” Progress in the game will unlock better-performing cars and move players toward their Burnout licenses. Online play will also be available, but few details were included.
“We have been working towards Burnout Paradise for quite some time,” said executive producer Pete Hawley, in a statement. “Next generation consoles have opened up a raft of new gameplay opportunities and the Criterion team has leapt at the chance to innovate and raise the bar to an all new high. There are going to be some big surprises and a lot of new features, but the core of the game is still pure Burnout.”
