Final Fantasy XIV Trailer Debuts

Soon, millions of people around the world will be kissing their free time goodbye (along with girlfriends/boyfriends) when Square Enix releases the next Final Fantasy MMO next month for PCs. Like all Final Fantasy games (not counting the spin-offs), Final Fantasy XIV is not a direct sequel to any previous entry in the series, but it will be the spiritual successor to Final Fantasy XI as the second MMORPG under the Final Fantasy banner.

FFXIV takes place in the land of Eorzea in a time a peace. A mysterious eastern power called the Garlean Empire decimated the most powerful city-state of the time, which forced the remaining powers to band together. The expected invasion never occurred, and after 15 years later, the jobless soldiers and mercenaries have begun to form guilds to go out on adventures.

The new game will offer five playable races, and four “disciplines” (although more may be announced, and expansions might further expand the choices). Each discipline will offer several options based on the items equipped.

A collector’s edition of the game will be available for the PC on September 22nd, which will include a making-of-DVD, an art book, an in-game helmet that will boost your stats, and a few other goodies for $74.99.  A standard version with the same game but minus the extras, will be released internationally on September 30 for $49.99. A PS3 version is slated for early next year, to be released on March 8, 2011.

For now, enjoy the trailer below. Oh, and if you were wondering, surcease means cessation. Thanks Google!

How to pressure Thunderclaw in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Cloud and Aerith charging up an attack.

Chadly has a lot of tasks lined up for you in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Now that the world is far more open and explorable, you'll have a ton of extra activities to take if you wish, but the first few are a bit more required. Aside from the usual tower climbing and item gathering, one task is to fight specific enemies with a series of requirements. The first one, which asks you to pressure a Thunderclaw, is more troublesome than it should be, even if you understand the system. Not to worry, because we've used the Assess skill to gather all the data on this foe to make pressuring it a breeze.
How to pressure Thunderclaw

Pressuring and eventually staggering enemies all comes down to exploiting their weakness(s). Normal attacks build a little stagger, and some abilities deal good stagger too, but if you don't hit an enemy's weakness at least a couple of times then you're likely just to kill them before they become pressured.

How to make the best parade formation in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Cloud standing before a troop of soldiers in FINAL FANTASY 7: REBIRTH.

Junon is dangerous territory for Cloud and his friends in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. The city is already one of Shinra's major hubs, but matters are made even worse when the president himself is set to arrive to host a parade. This presents a perfect opportunity to don some disguises and hide in plain sight among the ranks, though things get a little out of control when you are recruited to lead a team of troops to perform in a rhythm minigame. You could brush this off and just get by, but where's the honor in that? Show the president your stuff by making the best parade formation possible.
How to make the best parade formation

Your parade formation is determined by which type of troopers you have and in what order. There are 10 groups you can find to add to your ranks, but you only need five to make a formation and start the minigame. These four types are Security Officers, Riot Troopers, Flametroopers, and Grenadiers.

How to skip Nibelheim in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Cloud, Tifa, and Sephiroth taking a picture in Nibelhiem.

If you were as a excited as we were for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth then you almost certainly played the demo before release. This gave you a sneak peak at the first chapter of the game where Cloud and Sephiroth are sent to Nibelheim in the flashback sequence. While great, there are a lot of slow moments here that make this section take quite a while so you may want to skip past it when starting the full game instead of doing it all again. Thankfully you can, but you have to do one little thing first that isn't very obvious.
