GTA IV To Set U.K. Sales Records

The game sold 609,000 copies in the UK on its very first day, smashing previous records.

The video game Grand Theft Auto IV smashed UK sales records when it went on sale last work. It shifted 609,000 units on its very first day, taking it$48.5 million. That outstrips the previous champion, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, which sold 501,000 copies on its first day in 2004.   It beat previous record holders on both PS3 and Xbox360. On the Xbox it racked up 335,000 copies, as opposed to 266,000 for the much-anticipated Halo 3, and almost 280, 000 for PS3.   But it wasn’t all glory. Users reported freezingproblems with the game on both consoles, although with the PS3 it was believed to be restricted to the 60GB versions.   Tomorrow Rockstar Games, thecompany that pumped $100 million in developing the game, will discover if it’s smashed first week sales record for GTA IV.
