Guinness World Records Become a Game
If you've dreamed of eating a jumbo jet, but don't have the work ethic or stomach to handle it in real life, the Guinness game will let you go for it. Somehow.
Game studios’ love of licensed games has turned out some pretty bizarre titles over the years, but spinning the Guinness Book of World Records into a playable game has to be one of the stranger propositions the industry has churned out. Warner Bros. Entertainment and TT Games will do it this fall though, with the release of Guinness World Records: The Videogame on Wii and Nintendo DS.
According to the developers’ brief press release, the new title will allow players to go for titles from world’s longest fingernails, to walking across the Grand Canyon on a tightrope and even more nonsensically, eating a jumbo jet. How any of this translates into a game is anyone’s guess, since not much is mentioned on actual gameplay (it will require “skill and dedication,” apparently.)
Keeping with the trend of nonexplanation, the press release also hints that players will have a shot at a title in the real Guinness Book of Records, although again, how is a bit of a mystery.
Incidentally, gamers who abstain from buying the title when it drops in the fall can also help set a record: World’s Worst-Selling Video Game.
