Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Get HD Makeover for PS3

Following the success of the God of War Collection, Sony continues to mine the vast depths of the PlayStation 2 library to re-release old hits with an HD facelift. Next up for the HD conversion will be the Sly Cooper HD Collection, which is tentatively, although unofficially, scheduled for a November 16 release, and according to Kotaku, the next games after that will be Ico and Shadow of the Colossus as a single collection.

If you haven’t played either game, you owe it to yourself to check out both. When Roger Ebert famously (or infamously depending on your point of view) claimed that video games could not be art, both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus were among the top examples used to prove him wrong. Both games released by Team Ico focused on pushing the boundaries of what a game can do, and both are wildly original works that are hard to classify in traditional terms. When both games were originally released, they received huge critical acclaim, but only fair commercial success, which inevitably led to a cult following.

Kotaku is citing a Walmart pre-order as the source of the confirmation, but the games have yet to officially be announced. If the pre-order screen is accurate, the collection will cost $39.99, which is in keeping with the God of War and Sly Collection HD pricing, and it will be released on April 1, 2011.
