JVC Unveils Three New Everio Camcorders

JVC has introduced three new Everio camcorders, including two new dual-format models and one that records up to 50 hours of AVCHD high-definition video.

JVC has taken the wraps of three new high-definition camcorders: the budget-minded GZ-HD10, and the dual-format GZ-HD30 and GZ-HD40, the latter of which can record up to 50 hours of AVCHD high-definition video on its 120 GB hard drive.

First up, the GZ-HD10 is designed with the cost-conscious consumer in mind, offering a 1,440 by 1,080 resolution, a 2.7-inch LCD viewfinder, and a 40 GB internal hard drive. The unit records in AVCHD format, and features a Konica Minolta HD lens. The system will upconvert video to 1,960 by 1,080 resolution via HDMI playback.

The GZ-HD30 and GZ-HD40 step things up a bit, offering dual format recording capability (MPEG-2 or AVCHD), storing video to an internal 80 GB (HD30) or 120 GB (HD40) hard drive. JVC claims the HD30 offers almost all the features of the HD40 model, but in a more-compact frame that the company says is the smallest full-HD camcorder—but it doesn’t come with a docking station. The HD30 can manage up to 33 hours of video recording; the HD40 can handle up to 50 hours of AVCHD video. Both feature q 2.8-inch LCD viewfinder.

All three new Everio camcorders feature JVC’s HD Gigabrid Duo engine for sharp images, a 1080p 60 fps progressive scan output, USB 2.0, HDMI 1.3 output with x.v. Color, and quick response times. The HD10 and HD40 offer an IEEE 1394 link with their docking stations.

All three new Everio camcorders will be compatible with the Everio Share Station (sold separately) to enable standalone playback and burning AVCHD and MPEG-2 Blu-ray discs without a PC. The Share Station can also be used as a standalone external DVD drive/burner with a PC.

The three new Everios should be available in August, with the GZ-HD10 carrying a suggested retail price of $799.95, with the GZ-HD30 and GZ-HD40 going for $999.95 and $1,299.95, respectively.
