'Kerbal Space Program' launching for PS4, Xbox One this month

Indie developer Squad’s popular interstellar exploration game Kerbal Space Program will make its console debut this week with the launch of a PlayStation 4 version, studio CEO Ezequiel Ayarza announced.

Kerbal Space Program is also set to arrive for the Xbox One by the end of July, and a Wii U version is also in the works.

Originally released for PC platforms via Steam Early Access, Kerbal Space Program is a simulation game starring a science-minded but failure-prone alien race. Players guide the Kerbals in their attempts to build rockets and explore the outer reaches of space.

Successfully launching a space program requires a significant amount of work on the player’s part, however. In order for the Kerbals to explore outside of their home planet, players must fund scientific experiments, manage resources, and schedule test launches before entering orbit.

The upcoming console version of Kerbal Space Program offers three distinct gameplay modes, including a “Sandbox” feature that allows players to experiment with rocket science without goals or restrictions. Also included is a single-player Career mode and a Science mode that focuses on scientific experimentation and technological development.

The console versions of Kerbal Space Program will feature an overhauled control scheme suited for controllers while retaining much of the complexity that defined the PC original.

“With completely redesigned controls and gameplay that’s challenging yet fun, you’ll have everything needed to conquer space with the Kerbals,” Ayarza said. “Flying your vessel has never been so fun in KSP — using the triggers and sticks on DualShock 4, you can have a more precise analog experience to make advanced maneuvers with your aircraft.”

The PlayStation 4 version of Kerbal Space Program launches via the PlayStation Network on July 12. The Xbox One edition will be available digitally on July 15, and a Wii U version is coming this winter.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is also coming to PS4 and PS5

Team Cherry confirmed that the highly anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong will be on two more platforms at launch: PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
The official PlayStation Twitter account revealed the news this morning, adding PS4 and PS5 to a list of Hollow Knight: Silksong platforms that include PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Hollow Knight: Silksong is a sequel to Hollow Knight, one of the most critically acclaimed Metroidvania games of the past decade. Hollow Knight: Silksong follows Hornet, a character from the first game, as she explores the unfamiliar world of Pharloom. When Team Cherry announced the indie in February 2019, it only confirmed that the game was in development for PC, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch.
The game went MIA after an appearance at E3 2019, only for it to triumphantly reemerge as one of the first announcements of the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase in June 2022. Although we know that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be available through Xbox Game Pass on PC and Xbox platforms, it's good to know that those who prefer to try the game on Nintendo Switch or PlayStation will still have access to the game on day one.
Unfortunately, this PlayStation announcement did not come alongside a new trailer or release date confirmation, so Hollow Knight fans are still left eagerly awaiting its follow-up. Microsoft did claim that every game in its June showcase was "targeted to launch in the next 12 months," though, so it's very possible that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be released for PC, Mac, Linux, Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in the first half of 2023.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is finally launching quite soon
Gollum stares at the eye of Sauron in The Lord of the Rings: Gollum key art.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum finally has a release date. Daedalic Entertainment and Nacon confirmed during a hands-off preview event attended by Digital Trends that this unique Lord of the Rings game finally launches on September 1.
Daedalic Entertainment first announced The Lord of the Rings: Gollum in 2019, but the game was pushed back to 2022 when Nacon came on board as publisher. Thankfully, we won't have to wait much longer for this adventure as it's only a few months away. Since its announcement, the rights for Lord of the Rings games have gone up for sale, and EA has announced a mobile game based on the franchise. Thankfully, none of those developments seemed to have negatively impacted The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

Digital Trends got an early look at The Lord of the Rings: Gollum via a hands-off demo. While this may seem like an odd comparison, imagine Uncharted's platforming in a stealth-focused game set in the Lord of the Rings universe. I saw Gollum hopping around ledges in both Mordor and Mirkwood as the developer carefully managed Gollum's stamina so he wouldn't fall off any ledges he was climbing.
Combat is minimal as Gollum has limited stamina he can use in attacks. As such, platforming and puzzle-solving will be the best ways to get through many situations. Throughout the game, players will also have to choose between the Gollum and Sméagol personalities during key story moments, and these decisions will impact the narrative.
Characters like Thranduil and Gandalf also made appearances in the demo. They sported looks more similar to their description in the books than how they were portrayed in the movies. While Gollum obviously isn't the prettiest protagonist, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum has a distinct look and feel compared to any The Lord of the Rings game that has come before it.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X on September 1. A Nintendo Switch version is also in the works, but does not have a release window outside of 2022.
