Lawsuit Hits Wii Controller

Hillcrest Labs has filed suit against Nintendo, claiming patent infringement over the Wii game controller.

The Wii’s motion sensitive game controller has helped make the game console the most successful currently on the market. But now it’s the subject of a lawsuit and a complaint to the International Trade Commission by Hillcrest Labs, E-Commerce Times reports.

The suit asserts that Nintendo has infringed on four patents held by Hillcrest, a company that makes interactive media devices. Nintendo said it had yet to see the suit.

This is the second lawsuit regarding the controller used by the Wii and its predecessor, the GameCube. Just last year Nintendo was ordered to pay $21 million to Anasacape, a company that designs technology for interactive motion-sensitive devices.
