Manhunt 2 Wins Final UK Release

After months of on-again, off-again, Manhunt 2 wins the battle for a full UK release.

For nine months Rockstar Games and British censors had been going to and fro about a release for the game Manhunt 2. It was banned, then allowed, thenalmost banned again as the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) took the fight to keep it off the streets all the way to the High Court.   But now,the BBC reports, the Video Appeals Committee has upheld a decision that allows the game to be sold, although it’s with an 18 certificate – meaning it can be only be sold to those over 18.  BBFC director David Cooke said,   "We twice rejected Manhunt 2, and then pursued a judicial review challenge, because we considered, after exceptionally thorough examination, that itposed a real potential harm risk. However, the Video Appeals Committee has again exercised its independent scrutiny. It is now clear, in the light of this decision, and our legal advice, that we haveno alternative but to issue an 18 certificate to the game."   Rockstar Games has continually contended that the game is no more violent than anything else with 18+ content. In a statementthe company said,   "We are pleased that the VAC has reaffirmed its decision recognizing that Manhunt 2 is well within the bounds established by other 18+ rated entertainment. RockstarGames is committed to making great interactive entertainment, while also marketing our products responsibly and supporting an effective rating system."
