Wanna run around Moscow's subway system blasting mutant monsters and carving out a future for a post-apocalyptic human race? Welcome to Metro 2033.

Game publisher THQ has announced that Metro 2033 has shipped to retailers for both the Xbox 360 and Games for Windows. Based on a novel by Dmitry Glukovsky, Metro 2033 follows a handful of humans who have surived an apocalyptic event by taking shelter in Moscow’s famed subway system for a generation. But as if fighting each other for limited resources wasn’t enough, the humans have to content with mutant monsters and other horrors on the outside…and there’s a new threat which might just wipe out humanity for good.

“Metro 2033 offers gamers an experience unlike any other,” said THQ VP Richard Williams, in a statement. “We’ve taken an extremely deep, engaging story, an incredible Russian twist on the post apocalyptic setting, and wrapped it up in some of the very best cinematic, first person action gameplay. The world of Metro 2033 is going to be talked about for years to come, just like other great gaming worlds that have gone before.”

The game is built around a proprietary 4A Engine that THQ says delivers some of the best graphics ever delivered on the Xbox 360, and advanced features help the PC version set a “new standard in graphical fidelity.”

Metro 2033 is rated M for “Mature,” and carries a retail price of $59.99 for Xbox 360 and $49.99 for Windows PC.
