Microsoft Hopes to Sell 10M Xbox 360s

Some companies shoot for the stars, and others shoot further out - much further out. Microsoft wants to sell 10 million Xbox 360s within 12 to 16 months of its launch.

Alfred Hermida, Technology Editor at BBC News says that the target was announced by Microsoft’s Peter Moore at a video game conference in London. While 10 million units may sound a tad bit ambitious, Microsoft will need to sell as many units as possible in the short lead time they have over Sony’s new Playstation 3. The Xbox 360 is expected to be available sometime around November of this year, in The US, Europe and Japan, while Sony’s Playstation 3 is expected to be available in the spring of 2006.

There is no mention as to whether Sony plans to introduce their Playstation 3 system in all three markets simultaneously or not. You can read Designtechnica’s Playstation 3 coverage and Xbox 360 coverage for more information on the two consoles.
