Midway Declares Hour Of Victory

Midway has announced Hour of Victory, a new World War II first-person shooter for the Xbox 360 built on Unreal Engine 3.0.

Who says the Xbox 360 is all about combat games and shooting at bad guys? Um, well, Midway does: the company has just announced Hour of Victory, a new first=person shooter under development for the Xbox 360 that promises to drop players right into the middle of historic World War II battles—and it’s built using the powerful Unreal Engine 3.0, offering complex lighting, physics, and artificial intelligence capabilities, along with network play features.

Hour of Victory is an entirely new World War II experience designed exclusively for the Xbox 360 that will place players in a pivotal role during key battles using the gameplay style they choose,” said Matt Booty, Midway’s senior VP of worldwide studios. “Using the powerful Unreal Engine 3.0 we’re able to create exciting, cinematic moments that allow players to feel like a hero, not just another cog in the war machine.”

Hour of Victory promises to bring together authentic details from historic World War II confrontations in Europe and North Africa with the frenzy and scope of cutting-edge video game technology and game play. Players will be able to take on each level in the style of their choice, whether as a covert operative, a British commando, or a U.S. Army Ranger. Players will be able to seize control of vehicles, snipe at the enemy from a distance, sneak into enemy territory, or engage in a flat-out assault.

Midway says Hour of Victory will be available “this summer,” which we take to mean between June and September of 2007; no word on pricing or multiplayer capabilities via Xbox Live, but considering the Unreal Engine is the same technology which brought Gears of War to the Xbox 360…we’re thinking there might be an Xbox Live component to this game.
