Nintendo DS Becomes American Obsession

With more than 10 million Nintendo DS systems sold in the Americas, the handheld game console is the fastest selling game system in the world.

Swallow this amazing fact if you can: there are close to nine Nintendo DS or DS Lite portable game systems sold every 60 seconds. Sure, this number may seem small when compared to other addictive products like cigarettes, alcohol, video poker, or Paris Hilton, but this is a gaming system we are talking about.

"More than 5 million people joined the ranks as Nintendo DS owners in America last year alone," says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. "And right now, they’re all saying the same thing — ‘give me more!’ Fortunately, no matter your taste or experience in gaming, that’s exactly what we’re supplying in the months to come."

Nintendo has kept manufacturing yields high in order to meet demand for the popular handheld, and on average has been launching 5-7 news games each month to help keep gamers interested. According to Nintendo, they will launch 20 new DS games within the first three months of 2007. Below is a list of those launch titles:

  1. Gamer1 at 12:26pm 1st February 2007 I can see where he's coming from. Take it from me, a former Gamestop employee who worked this last Christmas season:
Wii and DS Lite were impossible to get. Anywhere.

Why? Because Nintendo brought the right products to the masses and you know what? They are worth owning.

Nintedo brings the quality products. Remember that.
  2. Nickbc87 at 10:24pm 30th January 2007 How about you quit *****ing and buy one on eBay, its a system not, and damn transplant kidney
  3. robo jesus at 10:53am 30th January 2007 what a bunch of retards.

nobody had faith in nintendo and now EEEEVERYONE wants a DS or a Wii.

well whatabout those who DID beleive in nintendo? those who always have? those who own a gamecube, a gba, and still have their nintendo 64's and super nintendo's, huh?

    wheres MY DS lite?
    wheres MY Wii?

you retards keep buying them all out and, though i have the money, i just cant seem to get ahold of a system ive wanted from the beginning, back when everyone said it was gonna be "gay" and "lame".

why dont you all go back to your ps3's and xbox 360's and let the true nintendo fans buy a god damned wii or ds.
  4. Norman Hayward at 8:18am 30th January 2007 We bought my daughter (4 years old) one for Christmas this year, pink of course. She mastered "Barbie and the 12 dancing princesses" in about a month. She is a riot to watch on the darn thing, little fingers just flying back and forth. It took her about 3-4 days to get the hang of it. So we are now trying to decide what game to get next, and my wife is now hooked on it and wants her own so they can play against each other!
  5. Theo H. at 7:43am 30th January 2007 The PSP does have as many games as the DS (if not more), they're just more expensive and most of them suck.
  6. Carrie at 11:18pm 29th January 2007 I bought my son the Sony PSP. Big mistake, I wish it had as many games as the Nintendo DS.
  7. Chris M. at 2:08pm 29th January 2007 Holy cow that is a lot of DS systems. Are these kids buying them or adults? How much does the DS cost?
  8. Ian Bell and Dan Gaul at 1:50pm 29th January 2007 God catch, I have updated the story!

    Cheers,

    Ian
  9. nerdyboy at 1:33pm 29th January 2007 "when compared to other addicting products"?

Nice try, Mr. Bell. I believe the word you are looking for is "addictive".
