PlayStation 4 update includes a more robust video editor in SHAREfactory

The upcoming version 1.70 firmware update for Sony’s PlayStation 4 levels up the console’s video sharing capabilities with a new suite of editing tools called SHAREfactory. The upgraded toolset allows budding filmmakers to connect captured clips with one another, apply a variety of special effects (filters, transitions, and themes), and personalize created content with on-screen text, audio commentary/music tracks, or picture-in-picture video (PS4 Eye camera required).

Completed videos can then be shared directly to Facebook or – in another new feature – exported to an external USB storage device. The update also allows console users to turn off HDCP (a copy-protection protocol), which allows for video recording via HDMI to other sources using gear like game capture devices. It’s a widely requested feature that’s been the focus of fan feedback since the PS4 launched in November 2013.

In addition to all of these multimedia enhancements, which you can learn more about in the video below or Sony’s new PlayStation Blog post, v1.70 also introduces an auto-download feature that pre-loads “select” pre-ordered games up to several days before their release.
