The final episode of Players Only shows how talented gamers are now able to turn their hobbies into careers on pro gaming circuits.
Some kids dream of being able to launch a football down a field like Troy Aiken or Peyton Manning. Others dream of slam dunking like Michael Jordan. And whether parents understand it or not, still others now dream of fragging opponents in Quake 4 like Fatal1ty.
In the final episode of Player’s Only, Scott Steinberg shows how superstar gamers are managing to spin their hobbies into careers the same way professional athletes have for decades. Leaders in pro gaming, from the PMS Clan to Fatal1ty, tell Steinberg just what it takes to rise to the top.
“People who are cut out to be professional gamers are typically people who are athletes,” says Fatal1ty. “If you grew up as a kid playing sports, being very competitive at anything – if you just know how to compete to win, know how to get that edge, you’ll be a great gamer.”
Steinberg also covers what life is like at the top, just how competition works, and how to break into pro gaming circuits.
The tenth episode of Players Only closes Digital Trends’ series on the video gaming industry, but previous episodes are still available for viewing online.
