Research Tells Tale of eBay and Xbox 360

Research data released by a firm which studies trends on eBay reveals, among other things, the pace at which Xbox 360s were selling during the first week following release.

Research published yesterday by a Canadian research firm tells an interesting tale about Xbox 360 sales on eBay. Terapeak, the firm behind the research, has been analyzing data about eBay trends since the beginning of last year.

Terapeak’s research suggests that in the first week after the Xbox 360′s launch, the next generation gaming platform was selling at a rate of 1 every 13 seconds during peak times. Over $23 million worth of Xbox 360s were sold during this period on the online auction website.

The data analyzed revealed that there was an average of 19 bids per successful listing, with over 586,035 bids being placed on 39,562 systems. The success rate for Xbox 360s listed on eBay was 78.2%, with the average selling price being $718 per unit.

Since the first week of sales, Terapeak added, demand has dropped to an average of 15 bids per successful listing. The success rate and average price also dropped to 75.4% and $702 respectively.

Rather sell the thing, and buy 2 later.. OR even have enough for the PS3 also.
But a few companies DIDNT give there preorders out, they sold them on the net, for ALOT of money.
I posted a link to one in the 360 debate.
  2. Ian Bell and Dan Gaul at 12:45am 10th December 2005 I actually bought one on eBay for a rip off price of $900 dollars for a Digital Trends video review here (soon to be posted). I asked the guy how he got it, and he said he preordered it and decided he wanted to make some extra cash.

What a shame people are doing this!
  3. ECA at 4:54pm 9th December 2005 Interesting that 10+% of ALL 360's hit EBAY.
I just want to know how they got there hands on 10% of the product the first day.. And how many of these sales are scams.
  4. Tantrum at 1:15pm 9th December 2005 Nice work Microsoft, you have scammed your way into making a successful product. Little do people know that there are only a couple good games available for the Xbox 360 and its not "really" fully compatible with older Xbox titles. Genius!

    Idiots...
