Rockstar Announces GTA IV Special Edition

A metal security deposit box, keychain and duffel bag are among the goodies fans will snag with the pricy special edition.

In the tradition of many highly anticipated games from respected publishers, Grand Theft Auto IV will be available in a special edition for those fans dedicated enough to cough up the coin for it. Rockstar, the game’s publisher, made the announcement Monday evening along with the price: a steep $89.99. That’s $30 more than the regular versions on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 will go for.

In exchange for the extra quid, fans will get their copy of Grand Theft Auto IV in a metal safety deposit box, which might actually be helpful for someone who has so much cash lying around they don’t mind spending $90 for a video game. They’ll also get a book with production art from the game, as well as a CD soundtrack that will only be available with the special edition release. Rounding out the extras are a Rockstar duffel bag (useful for trips to the country club) and Rockstar keychain (supposedly for the security deposit box keys, but it would probably work well with the keys to a Porsche, Rolls Royce or Aston Martin as well).

All of this will be available on the originally planned Grand Theft Auto IV release date of October 16 in North America, or October 19 for our friends across the pond in Europe.
