Sony Announces Media Software for PSP

New PSP Media Manager software will make it easier for Playstation Portable owners to manage and transfer media content between PCs and PSPs.

Sony today announced they were releasing software for the Playstation Portable which would make it easier to manage digital content for the device. Dubbed PSP Media Manager, the software only isavailable online for $19.95. A boxed version which includes a 6-foot USB 2.0 cable, sample media, and five free songdownloads from Sony’s Connect online music store will be available in December with a price of $29.95.   PSP MediaManager, Sony said, makes it easier for PSP owners to move content from their personal computers to the portable gaming device. The software include navigation and thumbnail previews to identifyphotos and videos to move from the PC to PSP system, as well as the ability to select among different quality settings (bit rates) for the transferred media.   The PSP Media Manager applicationsupports several video and audio formats, and also allows users to locate and subscribe to a variety of RSS feeds including podcasts, video blogs, and PSP- formatted magazines for automaticdownloading to the PSP system. The software also provides a one-click option that lets users back up game saves, images, videos, and music files from the PSP system to their PC.   “Since itsinception, the PSP system has quickly become the device of choice for portable entertainment,” said John Koller, senior product manager, Sony Computer Entertainment America, in a statement. “Whetherit’s games, music, movies photos or Internet access, no other portable media device provides as much functionality and entertainment as the PSP system. PSP Media Manager software enables consumers toeasily manage and move their favorite media from their PC to their PSP. The PSP system, coupled with the new PSP Media Manager software, provides a complete solution for truly enjoying the PSPsystem’s portable entertainment capabilities.”
