Sony Playstation 3 to Have Download Service

Sony is saying they are ready to combat Xbox 360's game and content downloading service with their own. Will it make it to the Americas though?

Sony plans to combat the Xbox 360′s download service with their own service for the Playstation 3. Though this is only going to happen in Asian markets at first, this adds even more fuel to the fierydebate over whether the Playstation 3 will have a hard drive included with the system. The Playstation 3 will be able to download games to the console for gamers to play and Sony says it will bebetter than the Xbox 360′s features.

The service is going to be called WA! PS3 Online, which has a rather strange name considering that “PS3 Online” would have been just fine I’m sure. Sony will be teaming with the Korea IT IndustryPromotion Agency for content availability. Content will included but won’t be limited to games, videos, movies, and music. Expect a plethora of content due to Sony’s extensive background in music andmovies. There is no word yet if this feature will come over to the Americas when the Playstation 3 arrives later this year.

  1. PS3 online at 8:33pm 25th February 2006 GammaGT is right. Also read about the joint KIPA/SCE-WSJ project here:

  2. Gmonay at 1:09pm 24th February 2006 It doesn't matter how their was spelled. The news is big. Sony really got lucky with the PS2 not having an interface like Xbox live.

I say 'lucky', when what I really mean is that PS2 was cool, and it had better content than Xbox overall, but Xbox's live service was far superior to PS2. (Except for the fact that PS2 charged zero money for online in US.)

Xbox 360 live is so sophisticated, that Sony has to respond or they'll lose a step. Sony has learned this lesson from the Walkman Ipod scenario~ it's about the software!
  3. GammaGT at 9:03pm 23rd February 2006 WA! PS3 Online is a joint venture of SCEJ and Korea IT Industry Promotion Agency to support PS3 online game development in Korea. It's not PS3 online service.

  4. J at 7:20pm 23rd February 2006 I agree with Tantrum, why does everyone *appear* to have information about the PS3, yet, Sony themselves have been pretty mum on the topic? Personally, I read as much as I can about the PS3, but don't take much of it seriously as it isn't coming straight from Sony. Anyone ever play 'Chinese Telephone'?
  5. Tantrum at 2:23pm 23rd February 2006 Why do details keep slipping out about the PS3 everywhere EXCEPT from Sony?
  6. Bill at 1:56pm 23rd February 2006 I have been impressed with the Xbox 360's arcade, think Sony's will be as good?
  7. dang at 1:32pm 23rd February 2006 Slipped past. It's been fixed. Thanks!
  8. Asen at 1:00pm 23rd February 2006 I was refering to the title sir!

"Sony is saying ready to combat Xbox..."
  9. jason at 12:59pm 23rd February 2006 Actually, Mafioso, Asen is correct. The summary line, "Sony is saying their ready to combat Xbox 360's game and content downloading service with their own. Will it make it to the Americas though?" misuses "their." It should read "Sony is saying they're ready..." instead. Just thought you might like to know...
  10. Mafioso at 12:51pm 23rd February 2006 Asen, he does use "their" correctly

    see:

"Sony plans to combat the Xbox 360’s download service with their own service for the Playstation 3."

now if he was to replace. like how you're explaning it would look like this.

"Sony plans to combat the Xbox 360’s download service with they're [they are] own service for the Playstation 3."

so actually you need to learn the differences between "their" and "they're".

    good day sir.
