Sony is readying a line of "greatest hits" gaming titles for the PSP: Sony's games come first, with third-party titles to follow.
Lest you think the Playstation 3 is stealing all the thunder this week, Sony has announced it will ship the first in a series of Greatest Hits titles for its PSP portable gaming system. The first $19.99 disk will be available July 25, and include Ape Escape: On the Loose,ATV Offroad Fury: Blazin’ Trails,Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee,Twisted Metal: Head On, and Wipeout Pure. Future Greatest Hits titles will include “nearly 15″ third-party games.
The initial Greatest Hits titles all feature multiplayer game play via wireless networking, and sport ratings of “E”, “E 10+”, and “T.” It’s not clear from Sony’s release whether the games will each be complete retail versions of the games, or slimmed-down editions offering a good taste of the full game while still cramming onto available media. Sony says they will continue to issue Greatest Hits titles as the library of PSP games continues to expand.
(Aren’t “Greatest Hits” albums usually a sign a band has jumped the shark? Isn’t the only thing worse a tribute album by other artists? And how many is “nearly 15″ games? Fourteen? Twelve and a half?)
