A member of Namco's SoulCalibur team announced on Twitter that a new entry in the fighting game series is on the way.

If fighting games haven’t had enough cleavage for you lately, you’re in luck. On Christmas day, Daishi Odashima, a member of the SC team, tweeted that a new SoulCalibur game is in the works. He is the director of the upcoming game. The tweet said this: “SC is back! Get ready, fans!” and had a link to the picture on the left, which shows him, a sketch of the SoulCalibur sword, and a life-size replica of the sword behind him. The tweet is below.

Yesterday, SoulCalibur creator Hiroaki Yotoriyama caught up with CVG and spoke a bit about the history of the series, especially SoulCalibur II, which some hail as the best game in the series.

“I believe that SoulCalibur II is one of most ambitious works in the series,” said Yotoriyama. “We included many of the left out features and revamped what was seen as being confusing from SoulCalibur 1 as much as possible. It was very challenging to develop the product simultaneously for three platforms; at the time it had never been done before in our history. This was also the time when the unique feature of the SoulCalibur world was born by bringing on the guest characters. SoulCalibur II brings back unforgettable memories of the franchise and you might say the soul of the Project Soul team can be felt from the product.”

Does SoulCalibur have what it takes to compete with the resurgence of fighting games hitting the market including the new Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat games? What would you like to see in the sequel.

    1. Mediocre at 12:15am 22nd March 2011 Quest characters being cloud and sephiroth don't tell me that dosnt make you spine tingle just thinking about it
  2. Mediocreman at 12:40am 21st March 2011 I think for soul caliber V I lt would be cool if some of the final fantasy characters joined in e.g cloud

Mr. E at 5:14am 5th January 2011 I liked that in SC IV you could add different abilities to your character, but what I didn't like is that the abilities were dependent on the gear your character was wearing. Linking the two really cuts down on character customization vs character functionality. I think a possible way of doing it would be to expand on the leveling system or to make the ability caps for a character increasable through in-game purchases using gold. It'd make it so that acquiring gold was always a good thing. The only issue is putting in safety measures so people don't cheat the game, and level their characters in inappropriate manners.

Mr Rugi at 2:23pm 3rd January 2011 In multiplayer mode there is no rival with the depth and beauty (of the girls, defences and the combos) of the Soul Cals---the brilliance of Soul Cal IV, which was often overlooked, was that even when you had taken a beaten and victory looked to be out of your grasp, you could crush the soul of your opponent with perfectly timed repels and attacks and then finish them with critical finish, no matter how much energy they had... Beautiful... A comment on the starwars characters in the last game... Looked odd, but Soul Cal was certainly the only fighting system that could do them justice, and we, being fans of starwars ofcourse, always enjoyed the novelty of yoda vs apprentice or vader fights, on the proper levels with the awesome music, and their "force" was reasonably well implemented. Story line needs... errr... rewriting... And tagging in multiplayer should be put back in!
  5. necroangel483 at 1:28pm 3rd January 2011 A notable feature of the series is that, with every game, the breast size of the female characters is increased and their outfits get skimpier. I think I speak for everyone (males at least) when I say that I cannot wait to see how namco sexes things up even more (especially with Ivy, how much further can they push that?).
    1. JustAnotherOpinion at 1:57pm 8th January 2011 You don't speak for everyone. I am a male and I love the Soul Calibur Series, but the breast size and skimpy outfits is a joke. You can include sex in games without turning the whole game into a twelve year old's wet dream. How about Seong Mina's outfit in Soul Calibur III? Skimpy with realistic propotions, not the joke of double D Ivy wearing nothing but strings. Pretty soon they'll have Talim, at age 15, supporting breast bigger than her character. Keep the sexiness in the game, but tone it down a bit so Soul Calibur isn't the laughing stock of the fighting genre anymore. Otherwise they'll turn this great game into a remake of bikini samurai squad. But I'm sure you loved that game, didn't you necroangel?

  7. Klatu Berata Nicto at 11:18am 27th December 2010 Street Fighter has the most comfortable, and recognizable moves set, fun all around. Tekken was always wayy too stiff. Mortal Kombat was always fun, but outside the regular moves, very tricky and complex especially the fatalities (although I love the gore!). Soul Caliber was simply sort of a mash up of all of the aforementioned. Not bad, not great. Id prefer any of thoe other games over soul caliber though. Not enough replayability, nor enough gore!
