I played Guild Wars 1 for about 6 years, the top reason for it being no subscription costs. I'd say that game was a rather huge success and I wish more companies would adopt it. Sure there's gonna be more emphasis on micro transactions, which is perfectly fine as long as it's mostly cosmetical or convenience like extra character slots of storage. Things that might help but that you can easily be without.

If I buy a game, it should be free to play. If I need a subscription fee to play it, it shouldn't have an initial cost. These game producers know that the average time for players is under 6 months. They want us to have the high initial price, because they can't keep players interest.

I hate that I have to pay to play a game... I bought it, let me play it! I like the Guild Wars method much better. I played that game for about 2 years...
